This will be my first attempt at mounting a hog.Does anybody know if Seminole Fur dressing in Alabama or Carolina Tannery will do any prep work before tanning.I do not have the equipment to thin the cape down expecially the shield area. And if so will salting the hide penetrate that area until they receive it.(shield area)

Seminole does not. I dont use Carolina but probably the same. Im not sure where you are but Bill and Rob Coates of Wildthings Taxidermy in Carthage New York have done several preps and tans for me on hog capes and I would highly recommend them.
I called carolina fur a few years ago about a hog cape they told me to turn lips eyes ears, remove fat from hide salt untill partialy dried and they would remove the sheilds. You can call them to find out if they still offer that service.
Slice into the shields in different direction like a checker board pattern and salted heavely, just about any tannery will remove the shields for you, but you do need to turn lips and ears and remove all fat.
Hog Heaven is the wholesale end of Wildthings Taxidermy that was mentioned by Ken,(thanks Ken).In addition to mounting hogs and other exotics we also flesh and tan RAW boar capes. We turn the ears, lips, etc. flesh, wet tan AND return ship to you for $125.00.You can call 315-493-1405 for more information.
