I ordered a potassium alum tanning kit from Van Dykes and I was going to use it for a squirrel that I wanted to mount. The Kit gives directions to make enough paste to cover the skin 1/2 inch thick, put the paste on the skin and to place the skin in a bag, tie the bag up and knead the skin for 1 hour every day for a week. I've used this tan before on various pelts (I tacked them to a board and applied the tan) and it has come out to be nearly rock hard at the end before I broke up the skin (i did that by hand; I don't' have a tumbler). My question is will the skin turn out just as stiff as the previous skins? Thanks.
p.s. I already looked in the archives
