i was a little carless on thinning out the meat/fat from a deer nose and cut into the nose pad. the cut is about 1/4" to 1/2" long. to double check with you guys... do i place pins on each side of the cut when mounting it, then try to blend it in when i texture the nose and paint it? or should i try to repair it before putting the hide on the mannikin? thanks-

I would pin it and fill it with sculp when dry
after texturing and painting it will be unnoticable

I would lightly superglue it just to hold it together during the mounting stage and to prevent glue from oozing out. Then when dry you would finish as normal, if the glue produced any bumps lightly tap them with a hammer.

Nose

The hide paste you use should hold it, but I have repaired a nose that was chewed by a dog . Hunter had deer ontop of dog box & dog snagged it through slots & had it nearly chewed off minus a few places. I was using hmm...? Rick Carter hide paste back then & the mod podge trick. He couldn't believe I could repair it but it worked.
Saw it about 3 momths ago and it was fixed 12 years ago. Looked fine.
