Do taxidermists give away the bones?

I was just wondering whether or not taxidermists give away the bones that they don't use.

But taxidermy is my job. I'm a taxidermist and not a bonehead. I don't have time to mess around with guys who'll "be right over" or "can you hold them till I get by next week?" I had one woman "Indian" wannabe call wanting a deer skull. I told her to come by and she got all snippy because the antlers were wedged out. "Well, I wanted the whole head." I told her so did the hunter and she said, "Well, you have the hide, why can't I have the antlers." Needless to say, it got ugly from then on.

George sounds like a funny story, I bet you let her have it. there was one time when this guy down the road was wanting any extra deer meat If I had any, I told I would probaly kill a deer in a couple weeks and I would give him it to him. 5 days later I killed a big 13 pointer grossing 167" B&C, he weighed around 220 field dressed. I figured this would be just as good as any other deer to give him so I caped it out because I wanted to mount him. I pulled up at his house with the rest of the deer and when he came out he started yelling "Wheres the damn antlers". I told him I was going to give him the meat not the antlers and cape. I told him if he didnt like it he can kiss my ass, well after that he really got pissed. He acted like he was going to try to pull me out of my truck, I drove off and called the police ,just to scare him, and never heard from him again. He moved eventually, he must have been on drugs or something.

some do, some don't.

The taxidermist I work with gives bones and skulls to those who ask for them. But I know there are a lot who won't do that.

I dont fool w/ stuff like that. i have 2300 leased 2 miles from my shop and i can tell you i'm a buzzards best friend. today they got a bobcat, hog, and some mule deer scraps.once a cape and animal out any thing that comes off the hide or life size animal carcasses gets tossed. i do keep predator skulls and let my beetles work on them clean them up degrease bleach and put them in my show room for sale or offer them at an extra rate to the customer. rite now my beetles are workin on some bobcats, bears, a mtn lion, a javalina and several boars w/ nice tusks.
