Skin measurements?

I'm getting frustrated trying to figure out how to get a good NBT measurement on this bobcat. So far I've been told there's no way a bobcat gets this big, it's because it's dry tanned, it's the way it was skinned. Believe me if there was a way to shrink the skin to find a common form i would. The cat is ventral cut and cut down the legs and dry tanned. I measured it dry, and measured it rehydrated. The only measurements I can get is about 40"nbt. What am I doing wrong to get a realistic measurement or is the cat just that big? I bought the skin already tanned. I don't want to sound stupid, but this is my first bobcat and never delt with an already tanned skin like this. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

What form did you use? Did you have to alter it?

Matt, what is the "C" measurement

I think we've talked about this cat. If you have a C measurement, does IT fit any form out there. If it doesn't, then you still haven't stretched it width wise far enough. Cats are notoriously bigger NT when they're dry tanned OR when they're measured hanging from a loop.

Stretch the width

as far as you can, get that form ,
Most important measure on cat is belly
Rest should fall into place

All of the above is good advice. You still haven't said if you took the time to stretch the skin widthwise. That means the neck, legs body,etc..What is the circumference around the belly? You have to realize that when you put the skin on the form and wrap all the leg skins around, tuck skin in the armpits and crotch, plus bring all the edges together, that this draws from the length.I don't know if you will end up with a 38" cat or a 36".There is no way of knowing till you try it on a form. You need to pick a form somewhere in that range that matches your circumference measurement. And don't do any alterations to that form until you try the skin on it and pin everything in place. Also have your leg slots cut before trying the skin. You should have very little or no alterations to do.You may have to adjust the length slightly. That's real easy to do.You will learn to trust the form proportions more than your wet skin measurements. You were told before not to take the skin length measurements too literally.I can't stress this enough. They always measure too long.A wet skin laying on the table will measure differently than one wrapped around the form. That is a big cat.Buy your form and try it on.
