first let me tell you im no expert i have done just six or seven of my own. the 2 biggest things that stand out to me there is no ear butts, and the eyes are the wrong shape. the eyes also look like they are to deep. its really hard to tell from the pics, and i also found out it is hard to take good pics. the deer always look a little better in person. just keep practicing and i will tell you they get better. the biggest thing that helped me i went to a local taxidermist and it cost me but it helped my deer out ten fold. he taught me so many little things that helped alot. if you try it, make sure he knows what he is doing. it does no good if the blind are leading the blind. just keep practicing mike r
I think it looks great, the sneak position is great, this changes the shape of the eye some, so, that is good, good mount, good ears, well done.
I'm no expert but, I agree that you need to work on the shape of the eyes. Find some good close up reference pictures that show different angles (front view, side view) I think that would help alot. As for as ear butts go, I probably over do mine, they always seem to be a bit of a challange. Again find some reference pictures. I think you did a great job on your first deer. Room for improvement, no doubt, but I think we all have that. Good luck.

Not bad for your first one, Just remember STUDY,STUDY,STUDY,& STUDY your reference pictures. Your eyes, ear butts, and looks like to much built up around the right burr. Just study as much reference as you can stand. Also if you don't have a earr butt reference cast from Buckeye Mann. get one and make it the detailed one. It will help you out alot. Good Luck.
To all of you for taking the time and sharing your knowledge, I will put the advise to good use.
butts are not correct - ear positioning on sneaks are NORMALLY symmetrical - a deer could make his ears mimic yours but that is what i see as the main problem - eye shape is good on left eye but not on right - you need to card ears as they dry so you get sharper edges - with all of that said this is an excellent first deer
The others are right, about the ears and eyes, also, you may wish to start laying out a grid pattern on the mold before for you set the cape. Some times the foam molds are out of symetry. the one side looks consierably larger. This would involve some shaving of the mold. For the average customer, they would not notice, but if you are going to enter the mount in a competition, the judges would surely point you for it. Good luck, and keep practicing.
