need a teacher

I have read a few Breakthrough books and have been practicing what I can, but I would really like someone to tell me that what I am doing is right or wrong. If anyone in the twin cities metro area is looking for a little free help like one night a week, i am looking for a teacher.

There is more help out there than you can imagine. Lets see, Breakthrough is a great place to start but it sounds to me like you are fairly new to this great hobby/profession. Although a teacher would save you lots of time and provide you with correct techniques to speed up the learning process you CAN learn on your own. I would start by watching video tapes and reading as much as you can. Stick to the basic/beginner stuff. Find certain techniques that you like and stick with it. There are so many different ways to mount a fish or a gamehead or a bird, You just have to find what you like and work hard to get better at it. Try to join one of your local organizations and youll find there are other guys just getting into it like you are. Breakthrough is a great magazine but I think its geared more towards competion stuff., it might make things more complicated than they need to be for you at this point in the game. Good luck and stick with it!

Dear Justin...for a number of issues, I have been gathering information to help beginners, in a "before and after" format. So far, most of this has dealt with fish issues, since that is all the taxidermy I do. However, post your questions clearly, provide pictures for a constructive critique, and the answers will be used to help you if you wish to show us all your work and share what advice you found most useful. We can always improve, and there are lots of folks out there willing to help. If you need further assistance, contact me through Breakthrough Magazine. You can see how this is done with the work of Traven Rowe, who first posted his pics here, and utilized our advice to improve his work.
