I have been searching the archives and don't seem to find what I am looking for. What I want to know is can you leave Stop Rot on the turkey skin and mount it-after it is cleaned of course.(It is being done as a rug). Also, when using it to wash the bird do you put it in the water? I read alot about the use of gas-not sure I want to go there! I am new at this , so I thank you for listening.

place in water. I will rinse and wash in a 5 gallon bucket. I use dawn dish soap. Gas does not clean, it only seperates the water. You could use either unleaded gasoline or camping fuel, (hunting dept. Walmart). Wash, then rinse well in cold water. Set over sink or outside and let drip dry for 20-30 min. If using gas then place in 5gallons of fuel for 20min. Let air dry 30min. Tumble, blowdry, borax, then mount it up. Hope it helps. Why stop rot? clean well and follow steps including borax and you will not have any problems.

I believe the instructions that came with, say that you can just leave it on their. "It is then ready to mount. The skin can ALSO be treated with dry preservative if desired". Just read your instructions that came with. Hope it helps

Thanks for help

thanks for your advice. On the stop rot directions it says to brush it on-leave on for 10-15 minutes then wash with dawn soap then proceed as normal.I wash my birds in dawn after cleaning them and dry -then use the borax.Have been reading about how this stuff works and thought maybe it would stop any chance of something going bad down the road. For some reason the fuel thing scares me, I think I will brave into it though. Thanks for your help.

Turkey Rug?

I've never heard of a turkey rug before, but anyway, I would stay away from the fuel method of cleaning the skin. Go with what your head is telling you, which is..yes, coleman fuel will blow like a mother if given the chance.
What exactly are you trying to do with this bird again?
