I bought some artificial water from McKenzie. Have never used before but would like to learn for use with my ducks. It says on the can mix 1and1/4% by wieght with the catalyst. Adjust by 1% by wieght blah blah blah. I was not aware that rocket science was involved...or maybe I am just stupid, after all, I am from East Texas! Anyway, can some kind sole out there please tell me in ENGLISH how to use this stuff? Thanks, JH

Go to a hobby shop and buy you some Envirotex. You mix it 50/50 by volume. I have the Breakthrough Habitat book and there's a chart in there telling you how many drops for how much volume based on thickness and LIKE YOU, a little of that crap goes a long way. Envirotex also doesn't "shrink" on you the way the "water" does.
I have used Envirotex also but some of my ice has turned pink...I must say it looked great for about 15 years before it turned and also had only flourecent lights (no sunshine) another shallow pond is doing the same?
It's all I've ever used. As far as turning goes, By what I've seen and been told by guy's that have been in it alot longer than me is it's all going to turn most times yellow. If Envirotex lasted 15 years, I have to say thats pretty good. Never heard of the stuff turning pink? Wow
You have; a large container of fiberglass resin. a small container of MEKP (methyl ethyl ketone peroxide). There is more than enough MEKP to activate all of the resin. Draw lines on the large container such as 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 etc. Do the same thing on the small container. If you use 1/4 of the resin, use 1/4 of the MEKP. To slow things down add less MEKP. To speed it up add more. Too much MEKP can cause discoloring and cracking. Not adding enough MEKP can cause s-l-o-w hardening and a sticky surface. This is the kind of thing you have to practice with in order to get good results. Uncle George has NO patience and this keeps him wondering about many things! lol. I had to beat him one time to get him to stop setting mannikins ablaze. Breathing all that burning axel wax and isocyanate anhialates too many brain cells. I'm sure George will now retaliate in a couple of weeks at the NTA.
But all you said is true, Rick. "Patience hell, I wanna kill something." LOL
its nice to know you have all the expierence to rely on with this site. Ive been doing taxidermy for a little less than a year now and I love it. I really appreciate all of you who help out when I get stumped. Thanks again, JH
