Salt is sweating

I have never had this problem before so I was wondering if anybody else has. I have some hides that I just fleshed that were in my freezer since november. I fleshed them as usuall and then salted them for 24 hours and then resalted them. They are in my basement. And there is all kinds of condensation around the hides and it appears to be coming from the salt. There was some salt off to the side of the table that was condensating just by itself. Not sure if its the northeast humid weather or it is the wrong kind of salt. They are 50 lb bags of salt that I got at the grain store. It is called Morton Purex All Purpose Salt. Can I send the hides to the wildlife gallery even though they aren't completely dry. I am just worried about them sitting in a hot shipping truck and haveing something spoil. Any info would be helpful, thanks
Brian

It's to damp in your basement. I had the same problem then I got a dehumidifier and put a fan on the salted skins and they dried rock hard in about 5 days. Right now it pull out about 4 gallons of water per day. Thats a lot of moisture in the air.

If you lived in the humid south

you would be real famaliar with this. As Rich said, put a fan on them and you will notice a difference really fast. Most of the time in the summer, we salt capes and keep them is an air-conditioned area. The AC does a good job of de-humidifying. AC + fan is really good to dry them out fast. Fan only will get the job done, it will just take a little more time.

1 : readily taking up and retaining moisture
2 : taken up and retained under some conditions of humidity and temperature <hygroscopic water in clay>
