I recently skinned a white squirrel. It is currently packed in salt. I would like to end up with just a soft squirrel pelt. I don't know where to start. Any good recommendations of where to find easy instructions for this?
Thanks

YOU CAN DO IT
Go to USA Foxx & Furs. Their website is www.usafoxx.com. they specialize in garment tanning and have very reasonable prices. I've used them and have had fantastic results.
I really want to do it myself. I'm thinking of the Curatan hair-on kit from Van Dykes http://www.Van Dykestaxidermy.com/product/01508983/
Will that work since the skin is already packed in salt and dry? Or is it something you would need to use immediately after skinning?
Thanks for your help,
Jes
Tanning is not that easy as rubbing the curatan on and it is done.
If you follow the directions perfectly, you can do it.
You will still have to flesh the skin, and make sure the pickle is at the correct ph and that you neutralise the skin like it tells you in the instructions. Don't forget to degrease the skin and wash it and evrything.
If you leave out any steps, you will not get the results you want.
After letting the skin sit out over night with the curatan on it, you will have to watch the skin closely and work it to break it soft.
The skin will dry in different areas faster than others.
Van Dykes sells a tanning video that you should buy as it deals with tanning with curatan and other methods.
The writen directions are good, but this is a must to truly learn how to do it correctly.
I have tried liquitan on my first two deer and it does not come out soft, should it?
Do you just want to make like a wall hanging out of it? I know cheaper ways of doing it that turn out just as nice unless you are wanting garment like leather. If you just want a wall hanging email me, I'll tell you what you need. Cost about $5 to tan it
