I just mounted my first whitetail everything turned out good except for one ear,it has major drumming,I used the bondo method and I believe I know why it happened. The mount is completely dry now my question is,will the drumming get any worse than it already is ( inside ear skin cracking etc.)is there anything I can do to fix this or should I just leave it alone, its not noticeable to the eye but you can feel it.

You can stick a wet towel in the ear, and bag it so it will not evaporate and it will soften pretty nice. Then inject a two part epoxy into the ear and work it around. Let set and all should be fine.
I'll give it a try.
"If Bondo allows the ear to drum and I have to rehydrate it so that I can inject it with epoxy, wouldn't I be smarter to use epoxy to begin with?" Epo-Grip sells Ear Magic which is a 2-part epoxy imbedded with fabric fibers that work just like Bondo without the disbonding characteristic. Or earliners and Liquid Fast Set won't drum either
for the insight..I have been reading alot about the Ear Magic and it sounds like a real good product, the only thing that worries me is the working time,I am going to try it though.
With Ear Magic, you actually have longer to work with it than you do BONDO. And once it kicks, you still have 4 to 6 hours to "bend" the ear like you'd like. Just make sure, like with BONDO, that you only do one ear at a time.
You are right on with those answers George. Ive been using ear magic for all my bears and I love it. My deer im still using earliner, cuz Im not sure that I will get the shape right on a bigger ear, I will give them a try some day though.
Bondo is a lot cheaper than Ear Magic, and it does work. That is the reason a lot of people still use it.
Best way to eliminate druming is to clean the tanning oil off the ear with mineral spirits and make sure you get most of the moisture out of it with hairdryer etc.
