I know this question has probably been answered many times but I have looked all through the archives and all the recent posts and I cant seem to find the answers anywhere. Anyways my question is to all you guys/gals, if I am wanting to do my first deer mount and I have 3 or 4 capes. How do I freeze the rest of them just so I can work on one at a time. What I really need to know actually is once I get the cape skinned off the deer am I able to stick it right in a freezer. Or should I go ahead and flesh and then freeze. If neither of these things are right then plz explain to me. Thanks Alot to anyone who responds.

If you are going to freeze them, then there is no real reason to flesh them first. I prefer to fold them up fur side in, skin side out. That way the skin cools down quicker and it thaws out quicker when you want it to.

If you are going to go through the motions and flesh and prep the cape, then why not take the 5 minutes to get it salted? A salted dried cape will last a long time. I would rather salt it and store it dry then keep it frozen.

cool the capes first. then place in at least 2 plastic bags. this stops freezer burn. provided the freezer stays on they are right for years.
