FISH MOUNT SMELL

Submitted by Tony on 7/30/06 at 3:57 PM. ( ) 65.25.215.81

Have mounted a couple of freshwater fish that I've caught using liquid-cure ( dish soap wash first, then recommended Liqua-Cure procedure ). No problems. But on my most recent one it still has a fishy smell even though its' been drying for a week. I cleaned all the meat out just as I did with my previous ones. Is there anything I can do to neutralize or remove the smell now that it's been mounted for a week? Thinking the 110? heat index here ain't helping! Any advise appreciated - wife says it's going in the garage instead of the den!

Fish can take up to a month if conditions aren't right

The smell goes away when they're dry. I'd almost bet the throat area and the gills are still soft (wet) to the touch.

Put it in front of a small fan

this will expediate drying and allow the odors to volitilize.

You must remove the bug buffet!

If anyone saw John C's seminar at the 2003 WTC you know exactly what I am talking about, he removed everything but the out-skin. Nothing should be left in the head, repeat nothing all the way to the nasel openings and just infront, cut out the ottolith(SP) and all you have is skin and a fan will dry it very quickly even in the humid heat of the STL area.
