still a little confused about storing tanned hides

One person said to put them in in laundry bag and freeze them, the other said to NOT put them in plastic containers...may make to much moisture. Wouldn't putting them in the freezer make moisture too? ALSO, should they be folded or rolled...hair side together or not? Thanks!

Tanned hides?

If they are tanned it depends on how they are tanned. Also depends on what you intend to do with them after they come out of storage. If they are wet tanned, they need to be frozen and you would know if it was a wet tan, it would be soaking wet. If they are just for decoration or wall hanging I believe some one said to fold them up and put them in a brown paper bag. Fold them in half, skiin to skin, than fold the other way hair to hair. Pretty much like folding a towel. Or you can roll them, what ever is easier.

ok

This really isn't rocket science. A dry tan should be stored in a cool DRY place, wet tans are stored in a freezer. If you fold a wet tanned cape or skin with the hair side in, it simply will thaw much faster when you plan on working with it. If your going to keep a dry tanned skin or cape around for periods exceeding 1 yr. you may consider re-hydrating and freezing it, thus avoiding acid swell.
