have just rehydrated a mountain lion hide that had been salted solid for maybe 4-5 months (at least), now im a beginer so it takes me a while, heres the dilema, the face was quite thick in parts and had to be reduced to hopefully get a good mount and the pads/toes had not been cleaned out, I rehydrated and set about it, it took me maybe 4-5 hours to get to tanning stage (wet tan cream), was the hide out too long ? have i messed up ? its tanned and in fridge at moment, is it going to be bald, any advise on what to do now and in the future would be helpful

why fret now? Whats to long? To long may be left out two days, or it might be 1/2 an hour. We dont know what the cat is like. Just finish it, you may not have anything go wrong. The only mistake I see is that you got a lion to learn on. I would have tried a throw away critter for a beginner. That way there is no fear if a red flag pops up. The things that make us worry and fret, are things that have not happened yet. If the hair is dry, you may have some bonus time for mounting, if the hair is wet, get it mounted fast and get some air on it.
I have some red fox skins that were salted/dried over five years ago. I just have not had the time until now. Well I ran them thru the shop (clothes) washing machine in Rittels Super Solvent and then directly into the KROWTAN-2000 and they came out perfect!
NOw figuring that they tanned fine I decided to see how lng I can leave them in the KROWTANN-2000, so they have been in there about three months. I pulled them out last week and used them to teach hide fleshing to a beginner (newbie Zero experience) and the red fox did great so great in fact I have zero reservation about using it on any hide to include two two year old salt dried Mt. Lion I will work up this later this week.
