I just recently purchased an Eager Beaver fleshing machine and decided to practice on a doe cape I had. I personally found that fleshing from the front of the machine was easier than standing behind the machine and leaning over it. Any opinions on my wierd style?

I would say what ever works for you is the way to go. I would be much more concerned about cutting myself with that positioning. I ocassionally lose a chunk of finger to mine and it's not pleasant. I personally like the idea of having my body and hands behind the plane of the blade. Good luck.
Do you wear gloves? Is it getting you thru them? Im going to be using my flesher on a deer hide soon adn I kinda worry-- being partial to keeping all my own body parts I was wondering if gloves protect you or just make it less painful LOL
