Thawing Specimens

Submitted by Jason on 8/10/06 at 5:03 PM. ( ) 63.84.125.130

Was just wondering what the best way to thaw out specimens is, In the bag or out of the bag,or just opening the bag. I searched the archives and it just turned into a jumble of arguments. Just looking for some advice. Thanks Jason

Jason I thaw everything out inside a 120 quart cooler.(without ice) It will keep it cool from spoiling and will thaw out evenly. If it is something large just crack the lid a little. You will not have any mess of blood leaking and smelling up your work place. TR

I'd like to tack on another questions if you don't mind Jason. How long can specimens go in a freezer without damage? I have a deer caped and double-bagged in the freezer that's been there for about 2 seasons now. Is it worth taking to the taxidermist? Thanks!
