Has anyone used an electric cement mixer as a tumbler for mammals and deer capes? Will it work ?
Thanks

works rather well ,just seal off the baffles, add a switch, the tub is all plastic ,plus made a lid for the front.
But why on God's green earth would you ever consider a concrete mixer for a bird tumbler? WASCO gives you an out with a pillowcase and some puffed borax and it's bound to be much quieter, if not cheaper than a jury rigged thing like a concrete mixer. Before tumblers, we used shop air, reversed vacuum cleaners or hair dryers quite well.
I have been using on I got from northen tool for under $200. It is a poly drum the beffles are molded in, just needed a plug for the frount that I made out of 2" foam.
Hay George the newer equipment(not the old steel ones from your time)are ao quiet that if you didn't see the drum turning you would no know it was running.
oops
Been there, do that all the time myself. I guess I'm just a purist at heart. I was a mechanic who was taught to always use the proper tool for the job, so I never considered anything else but a bird tumbler. That doesn't mean I don't use a tack hammer to beat hell out of a seam, however.
Thanks for the the replies..

Hello, I'm in need of a bird tumbler and I'm not going to sped $550 for one! I've heard of cement mixers. Can anyone help me out in what to do. I also got a manual on how to make one, but I'm not mechanicaly inclined. I don't mind spending $200. Even a used one would be great. Thanks!
Years ago I started with an old clothes dryer. Just disconnect the heat and block off the fan. Depending on what type of media used you may have to blank off the holes in the drum from the outside.
Worked great for years.
