even consider letting pigs go anywhere- In Wisconsin there are pigs in the southern part of the state-you should see how destructive they are. They ruin the land by rutting it up. I am not sure but I think you can get a free permit to kill the nasty little devils. (Again I said I think you can -not totally sure though)

Nasty pigs

I live in North Central Texas. Ten years ago there was not a hog around. I do not know where they came from, but I kill over 100 a year without hunting, Just seeing them on my land and trying to get rid of them. I live in the country and farm a little. You plant peanuts, the cost is about $100.00 per acre. That night the hogs come in and go down the row and eat all the seed. We instal electric fence wires about 1 foot about the ground and it helps some. One of those sows have about 6 to 10 pigs per liter and about 3 liters per year. Yesterday morning I saw 74 hogs in one group. All sizes. 70 left my field. Next year there will be twice that many, or more. The deer population is about the same, BUT the hogs ate most of the rattle snakes.

Tim,
Like DW and Dennis said, don't do it. We had somebody let domestic hogs loose in the woods were I hunt in New Jersey and within one year they turned feral (wild) tusk and all. I shot one with a 1 oz slug and it turned around and came right for me. They destroyed the woods and the turkey population went down. I'm not sure, but an article in outdoor life said deer and pigs don't mix and I definitly saw a lot less deer that year hunting. One other thing, when I called the local butcher to see if he processed pigs he said sure bring them in and we'll test them for swine disease (he thought I was a farmer) That killed the idea of taking some of the meat!.

if you went around telling people you were releasing
(more) hogs in the wild I'm afraid you'd end up in a fist fight.
Deer have a tough enough time trying to scavenge out a
living but when you intoduce hords if hogs vaccuming the ground
for every acorn and wallowing, stinking up the precious
water holes it makes are deer's life that much harder.
Not to mention they'll kill and eat fawns along with
every thing else like quail, turkey eggs. In fact I had a
rubber garden hose hooked up to a water trough and they ate that!
On a ranch I manage I may just shoot hogs only this
next deer season.
But you're right Dennis, the only rattler I saw this summer
was in the mouth of a hog as he was running across the road.

Like all the other guys said they will destroy your land i live in south alabama and they are everywhere.I have over 300 acres and they just about took it over,so the answer to your question is H?LL NO

No good

All they do is destroy everything, they're like having living root plows around. The deer don't like them either. If hogs start coming to a feeder, deer start staying away. BP

Never cconsider letting loose a domestic animal into a wild habitat. For one, its unfair to the animal, two, its unfair to the habitat. You see it in every country where someone let something loose and it is ruining a natural aspect of that area, Red fox in america were imported from england. many birds died along with other smaller animals that they hunted.

The domestic cat in Australia is killing off rare indiginous species. Rats from ships are doing the same. Same with dingos.

Black berries are choking out areas of america because they were imported. vines creepers and other so called "beautiful" flora is causing damage to deer habitats...bamboo is one. In the mid west, many of the natural plains grasses are being choked out by asian imported grasses.

Never condister releasing cattle, horses, goats, sheep, pigs or chickens, geese or ducks, ANYTHING. These animals are too long domesticated, thier purpose is too engrained in our way of life. If we let them loose, all they do is destroy.

It's also illegal

As far as I know it's illegal to turn a domestic, or captive raised animal lose into the wild. I know you can get into alot of trouble. An animal only exists where it can be sustained any ways. Few years back to DNR turned fishers lose around here to keep the porupine pop. down but all they have kept down is the rabbits and partridge.

OK I UNDERSTAND
