As most you all know I am new. And I requested some animals to practice on. Just some cheap stuff because I KNOW I will probably mess up and dont want an expensive hide to be ruined from MY lack of experience. And I thank all of you who have helped me out :) I truelly appreciate the great responses.
My questions are---Is it common for sellers to sell you stuff WITHOUT the proper papers? I had a guy offer me an "item"( I wont say what kind) that I was told would be great to learn how to repair mounts... But when questioned on the proper tags etc I never heard from the person again. Obviously it wasnt something commonly found in my world LOL..
What recourse is avail to me if I get something that does not include the proper paperwork cities tags etc? If they didnt send the proper forms/tags I doubt they will be on the up and up and refund my money. I just dont want to be stuck with something I can be fined or jailed for.
Any thoughts?

I'm very new also and have had great help from many on here thank you very much by the way , appreciate it . I agree very helpfull people on here. But from what I have read on here it is mostly your responsability too know what is legal for you too buy or sell according too your state. Read everything you can and look up the legal stuff you need too know on each animal/cape you are interested in getting.

You will find sharp organized suppliers, and some lazy sellers.
Some States do not require ID, most States do require a paper trail for each specimen. As you have now learned, you must ask and request a proof of legal harvest if your State requires you to do so. Our State only requires ID tags with hunter's name and tag number for animals that are native to our State. Any breed that is not native to our State does not require the tag ID, but they ask that we do have it just for the records.
Check your laws, as you may already have, and ask the person donating the specimen for numbers.
I sort of have a problem at the moment :( Seems I have the tanned hide, but I searched the whole package and found nothing. THe hide isnt marked in anyway that I can see either ...
Yes I am worried LOL...IM one of those law abiding die hards that require everything in order... so if you can imagine IM having a fit at the moment LOL Please advise :)

Rae, You are a bit illusive on information concerning what you bought that concerns you. In some states one has to have documentation on a deer cape, other states don't require it. If you order an item that the sender is not required to tag or otherwise document yet it would be required in your state I would say just keep written record of the purchase in case you ever have to prove where it came from. This of course assumes it was legal for you to purchase in the first place. Some items are federal and as long as we are talking the states the rules are pretty clear. Best thing I know to suggest is only buy what is legal for you to buy from those that can legaly sell, always keep a record of the purchase and where you know there should be some tag such as a CITES ask before you send money if the critter has it. I always figure I might get in trouble one day but if/when it happens I'll have my paper record to at least show that I was trying to do right. Enjoy and stay legal, Aaron H.
Well Im kind afraid to say since it didnt come with its tags. Being in Calif I have to really watch what I get because it has to come with proof of legal take, where I got it, etc. And well it showed up with nothing... It was supposed to have all the proper documents. THe person I got it from even stressed to me to make sure when I buy stuff to make sure I get that LOL..
And well nothing but the tanned hide arrived. I checked for marks and tags..nada nothing :(
Maybe IM just being overly paranoid but dang it I want my tags LOL..
Everything got all straighten out and IM now a happy Camper :) Soon as I get the bill of sale Ill be set :)
