I need some help.. Ive been all over the dang DFG site and I cant find a thing about racoons. I want to shoot them to mount and when I get good maybe sell some down the road. Only thing I can find refers to trapping.
I also need to know if I need a license to buy tanned or raw furs to use on mounts. I saw the part about fur dealer license but it seems more geared for buying and selling, for fur market not taxidermy. Plus there is a part that says that it is "unlawful to purchase the raw fur of any furbearing mamal or nongame mamal from any person who does not hold a valid trapping license, fur dealer license, or fur agent license" So I wouldnt be able to buy something say from my neighbor who happens to shoot a coyote..
What licenses do you CALIF taxidermists have to buy/sell furs raw and or tanned,? Do I even NEED some license to buy some pelts to mount for resale? Or to even mount for myself since that is what Ill be doing for awhile until I get good enough LOL...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. You dont even have to write it all out just send me a link or tell me who to call :) I would so appreciate it :)

Here in Illinois, all you'd need is a taxidermy license to buy raw furs, as long as you're using them for taxidermy. I don't know whether Cali requires a taxidermy license. Your best bet is calling the DFG to find out what you need.
If you want to buy or sell fur bearing animals, you need a Trappers license or fur dealers license to sell furs. In Ca. you can't sell anything indigenous to Calif. with out these licenses. With game birds you need a sale and disposal permit (Fed) Wild Waterfowl cannot be sold at any time. No State taxidermy license required.
Thanks Tony.. I spent 3 hours and finally found the coon part, and I know of the seals/tags for gamebirds, but I will look into the sales and disposal permit. Never seen that one before...
Seems like Calif has some stricter laws compared to other states...
I read up on the taxidermy laws too :) Actually found a whole section pretaining to taxidermy :)
Thanks for the help I appreciate it alot :)
