Hey Everyone,
Please, I need some help. I have recently opened a shop in Indiana, and while I have been doing taxidermy work for myself and friends for 20 years I have never before taken money for it. Now that I am retired, I am in the process of opening a part-time shop/studio, (I know many of you hate part-timers, especially pt's who can't spell), and I am confused by the laws.
I applied for and have received a license to do taxidermy, and with that license came half a sheet of laws and regulations that seem vague at best. Can anyone help turn that lawyer speak into good old Hoosier Redneck English?
I looked under the orange button and only found two posts regarding LOG BOOKS and so I have a few questions.
What information is required to be kept regarding fish and mammals?
(I know birds are an entirely diffrent matter)
What happens if I have old shed antlers in my shop or found skulls etc.? Do I need to Log them somehow?
What about old mounts I did years ago, before I opened my doors to the public?
How about items purchased over the internet?
What about specimens that I kill?
Maybe the best question I could ask is does anyone know where to go to get my other questions answered.
Thanks in avance for the help,
Chris

This is from one Hoosier to another. Alot of your answers can vary depending on the law enforcement officer who visits your shop. My local DNR officer visited me and suggested that I tag personal and shed antlers that are mine the same way as I tag customers. Unless they are kept out of my shop, such as the house. So I suggest tagging skulls and antlers or storing them away from the shop. Same thin goes for old mounts, If you keep them in the shop I would tag them somehow. Same goes for mounts purchased on the internet. As far as specimens that you harvest or buy to mount. If they are stored in your freezer they must be tagged the same as a customers specimen is tagged. Even if it just has your name and something that says gifted specimen. Glen gave good advice also. My advice is just the way my DNR officer explained it to me during a freezer check. So other officers may interpret it differntly. Feel free to contact me by e-mail or phone if you have a question I might be able to help with.

I believe I will write Ms. Petercheff a nice letter asking her all of my questions. I will share any information I gather from her office.
Thanks again,
Chris
