Ok may seem like an odd question but how much fat do I need to remove from a bear skin before salting it?
Lets face it theres no end to the amount of triming and scrapeing theres no end to the fat,do I just remove the majority of it or do I need to get it all off.The hide will be sent out to be tanned. Thank you. Also Does it need to be dryed rock hard or just till its good and stiff.

I send my stuff to Wildlife Gallery. Thye told me thye like the bears 75% dry. Which means not totaly hard like a deer hide gets but pretty dry. Depending on where you are it might take a while for the hide to dry this time of year. As far as the fat, I know there is alot on there, way tooooo much on some, but you do have to try and get most of it off while fleshing it, flesh it down but not so thin that you can really see the hair roots, cuz thats what happens wit bears you shave fat, fat, fat then yuor right there at the hair, so just be careful, and good luck, Kevin
