I have dried oris it tanned two antlers in velvet. One using Preserv it, which is dry to the touch, and looks nice. The one I preserved with Antler in Velvet looks really good, and seems to be dried, but the outside feels sticky. It's been 8 days. In theory, if the antlers are preserved or tanned, I should be able to rinse them off. Can any one tell me if this will harm the velvet? Thanks for your help! I have four more to do and I am not sure if I should use the Antler in Velvet which looks better, or the preserve it which is definitely dry.

Just like skin, even though its tanned...it can always be rehydtated. If you wet the velvet, the membrane will rehydrat i wouold assume and start to move on you. I think the velvet will be able to be dryed but not sure if the velevet will be harmed in the process. I have always had them freeze dried and never used to products.
I'm not talking about soaking the velvet, just use a damp sponge to remove any excess antler in velvet. I tried to ask someone at WASCO today, but the person I needed to speak to wasn't in. I didn't think about it rehydrating so much as I was worried about washing away the "tan". I would like to have at least one freeze dried, but most people here won't spend the extra money. It's just too common to get deer in velvet.
