beaver pelt-to tan or not?

I have a beaver pelt in the freezer that I want to put on a vine maple limb and hang on the wall near a set of snowshoes. I've scraped the pelt and was thinking I could just thaw it out and salt/dry it and put it on the limb like that but was told that I need to tan it. Thanks.

...you have to tan it for it to survive. JL

The beetles and their larvae will become your houseguests if you leave it raw whether it is air or salt dried.

you could stretch it and apply a liberal coat of Powdered Borax. to both the flesh and fur side. allow to dry, and brush the fur leaving only a trace of the borax at the scalp. this will preserve the hide, and keep those pesky bugs away

I think I'll try the borax. Thanks for all the answers.
