Best and easiest stitch??

I wanted to get some of you're professional opinions on which is the best
and easiest stitch to use to sew the incision on a whitetail. I have mounted
two deer and have used the baseball stitch, but I watched a video last night
and the guy used the casting stitch to close the incision. It appeared to be
easier and quicker than the baseball stitch. I also noticed that he used a
regular straight sewing needle, like you can get at WalMart. Just curious to see
if one stitch is easier than the other, since I have only tried one.

Thanks,
Tony

Tony, I've been doing Taxidermy for a LONG time and I still use the baseball stitch. I guess its the one I learned with and I'm comfortable with. I also use a straight three cornered needle. The one I use is 4 in. Its easier for me to grip and push through the hide. On my competition stuff , I go to a smaller needle and use a hidden stitch. This is where you insert the needle through the edge of the skin and you bring the 2 edges together with no thread exposed. Bob C
