Sun bleached antlers

I am purchasing a nice set of 6X6 elk antlers on the skull. The antlers were on the ground for the winter. They had bleached white but are still solid and not chalky. They have been touched up by a taxadermist but the tips are still white. Any tips on how to bring this set of antlers back to the original color. I would like to mount the antlers and hang them in my new archery shop. Thanks

elk antlers usually have white ivory tips. If you want them stained darker we use potassium permanganate which is purple in appearance but turns brown when dry. There are also other forms of stain on the market. Check out the taxidermy suppliers. The potassium can be purchased from Research Mannikins. Good Luck, Mark

The tips will always be white on elk antlers. But the best way I have found to bring back the original color is take tree limbs and rub the color back in them.(Pine & Aspen) Works really well and it's alot of work but the results are great. You can get it pretty close with stain but if you want original color put it back in the way the elk did the first time. GOOD LUCK
