Bobcat pelt, dried but have some maggots

I just called and killed my first bobcat. I tube skinned it and waited til til the morning to flesh it and hang it on a stretcher.

After 24 hours it was mostly dry, so I was going to invert it to fur side out and let it dry the rest of the way. Three areas had maggots. both front armpits, where the skin had folded down over itself, prohibiting it from drying. And a spot on one rear leg where the skin had folded over itself. I sprayed these areas with raid, and inverted the pelt like I had planned. It is now drying like this. Is this pelt salvageable? Should I cut out those affected areas? What do I do when it is dried all the way.

This is my first animal skinned and prepared for tanning, which I also plan to do. What is the best tanning solution to use here at home.

Thanks, Steven Link

Steve, You probably will be able to save the hide. You would have been better off salting the hide instead of drying it. The best home ta I've used, is one sold by Rittles tanning supplies. Its als sold by WASCO and alot of other supply co. The name of the tan is EZ 100. It has very simple to understand directions and produces a nice soft tan. Bob C
