A friend of mine got a 10 point mounted a few years ago and who ever mounted it for him mounted it on a really small form it looks like a small doe with horns.My question is ,is there any way possible to take hide off of form and re do. thanx for the help!!!

It will not be the same cape. But if its a really good rack the investment will worth it. Find a competent taxidermist, look at his mounts verses photos of live deer. McKenzie makes some twenty inch swelled neck forms in the 96 and 98 serie with short er faces that really look good for full rutting bucks. The charge will be for the mount plus a cape so dont be suprized at the cost it will be a little higher. Good luck John C

Red, It sounds to me like the guy screwed up the original cape and replaced it with whatever he had. Its tough to put a large skin on a small form, although it can be done. If the skin was tanned, you might be able to rehydrate it in water and reuse the skin. But be ready to replace the skin. Some tanned skins will fall apart after a period of time when wet. This is caused by a build up of acid in the skin. If the skin was dry preserved ,dont mess with it. Just go ahead and get another cape. Good luck with whatever one you try . Bob C

Thanx for the info I'll let him know what you guy's said . As far as the size of the rack its not a huge rack but its the nicest rack he ever got so its a keeper as far as he is concerned,and I saw picture of it when it was tag and baged and the head and neck where way larger,and I think your wright Bob I think who ever did it riped him off.WEll thanx for all the help!! talk at ch ya later.

IF YOUR FRIEND ACCEPTED THE DEER HEAD THAN HE WAS SATISFIED WITH IT TELL YOUR FRIEND THAT NEXT TIME DONT ACCEPT A BAD MOUNT BY NOT DOING THAT HE RIPPED HIMSELF OFF ALSO..
