I am getting ready to put an antelope head in my beetle colony for
cleaning. The antelope was shot a couple of weeks ago by my buddy.
The horns are very much on there. I have tried cutting around the base
and was unsuccessful in getting them off. Is there any other way of
getting them off, and will the beetles eat them if I put the skull in
with the horns on? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Eric

dont know if the beetles will effect the horns. I microwave the horns for two minutes then try to twist and pull them off while wearing gloves. If they dont come off I do it again for one minute intervals until they come loose. Dont microwave for longer periods or you might bubble the horns....learned this from experience. Good luck!

If the horns are record box, I try not to heat they could shrink and loose some length and girth , but if not you can heat or put in a bucket and cover with water and let it rot off in a week or two that is the way I normally do it,But if you are in a hurry and the small shrinkage doesn`t matter heat works well. good luck Steve
