Hi Jack,
I have had good luck with my double action Aztek. With airbrushes you will
find that it is a personal choice. I have used Paasche for 12 years and
since using the Aztek, haven't used my Paasche since. I sold them last year.
It comes down to whatever YOU get comfortable with. Good Luck!

This is a individuals choice on airbrushes. But for a beginner the H model single action is hard to beat its cheap priced well made and affordable. I have a 20 year old H that still gets used a lot, plus a couple VLs and a AZTEC that sets on the shelf. I can show you several people that paint fish daily with the H and get the finest details you can with the high dollar models.
I bought a ZOTAR in APRIL not cheap by any means and had the detail of a experienced H man beat me hands down. guess that showed me. John C

I like my VEGA 2000. The color just seems to appear where I want it. I wish they'd make the paint bottles stay on better, though. I'm always afraid it will fall off and splash the mount. Hasn't happened yet, however...

Aztec is probally your best best. Yes I have tried All 3 Pache brushes, H , VL, VL jr. Aztec Double action is what you want. Stay away from the single action. With the double you can get more out of it and if you like a single as I do for spot painting you can easyly set it up for that. It is light weight and durable. If you drop it no bent neddles as with any of the Pache models do. Plus its guaranteed for life. Can't beat that now. But this is my preference you have to choose now.

I too recommend the Aztec. I have tried others and when I got the Aztec I could not believe how easy airbrushing had become. It won't spit splatter or screw up your paint job. It is simple to keep clean and when the tips wear out you get a whole needle/tip assembly for about $9, but then I haven't wore out any tips yet!!

Hey Jack,
I recently purchased the Aztec 470. I had all kinds of problems with it! I use Polytranspar Waterbased paints(WA), and couldnt get any kind of consistant performance out of it....spitts..sputters..clogs. I checked the brush, compressor, and moisture trap over, tried different air pressures, and changed tips. I couldnt solve the problems! I bought a Paasche VL and have had no problems at all! Im not bashing the Aztec, just wanted to tell you my experience with it. Im going to send it in to get checked, maybe its just defect. Hope this info helps in your decision!

Same here I have tried to get my AZTEC to work correctly and it just will not, change tips, tried everything. It just dont work as advertized, I have evn worked with some other taxidermist that are not happy with them. For a beginner a Paashe' H is possibly the easy one to learn with. And the price is right for a learner. The key is retarder and air pressure. Get a blnak and paint, strip, repaint again and again. john C
