I have a piece of hide I kept from a trimming that's been under my work table for 2 months. I noticed it's got a mold spot the size of a dime on the flesh side. It was tanned with an auto tanner and fleshing machine clean. Is this from something undone at tanning time, or just because it was so damp?

2 Months - In dark, heat and moisture? Sounds like a great way to promote mildew - even bacterial growth! It certainly sounds like Mildew - although it may even be some kind of fungal growth too! Use a swab soaked with a good Bacteriacide/Fungicide and wipe it down. Since its a cutting, hopefully your mount isnt presently hanging under the same circumstances, so I shouldnt think it will also grow there.

That's good news. I just kept a piece to see how my new tanning machine hides looked when they got old. My mounts aren't kept in the same place. Just making sure I wasn't missing something. Now I can sleep.
