I am still contimplating on whether school is right for me or not I think if i were to order some good but inexpensive videos to get the jist of taxidermy, it would make up my mind regarding schooling.
If anyone knows of some good video, please let me know.
Thanks

Videos vs. Schooling

Hi Edward,
Videos are good for basic knowledge and learning concepts but going to
school and getting 'hands on' will put you light years ahead. There are things that
just aren't on videos and it's hard to ask the video a question. There
are good schools out there. I went to the Montana School of Taxidermy
in Helena, MT run by Jeff & Jodi Welch. I had done taxidermy for a hobby for 15
years previous. I also worked for a taxidermist for 2 years, in early 80's.
Now being disabled, I have limited use of one arm, I decided to go to school
to see what I could do with my good arm. School helped tremendously.
I have been fulltime for the past 5 years. I have videos for reference
and review.

Good Luck! TimB

I have several of the videos for deer head mounting and my favorites are Sallie Dames whitetails from a to z from WASCO, Mule deer also from WASCO I believe the guys name is Carter or something like that. Also Mckensies (thats spelled wrong but you know who I mean) whitetail series is very good.

Maybe this will help

Having mounted a lot of animals and been to show upon show. I was recently given the privlidge of attending "JOE MEDER'S GAMEHAD COURSE"
Let me tell you I lerned more from that $2000.00 than I have ever learned from seminars. Dont take this wrong I feel videos and seminars are the way to get a fast start for the beginner. I would save my money and put it on a week long work shop. I have several friends that have attended these odd schools. Do some videos, get all the WASCO books, build your educational libary get into some shows, and then do some real workshops. These work shops will put you heads and heads above the rest. olphart
