Elk Cape Measurements

Submitted by Nicky on 9/28/99. ( ) 12.73.251.64

I have an elk cape that wasn't measured prior to caping out. I measured it in the
same manner I measure deer capes. My problem is that the nose to eye measurement is 14". I can only find manikins up to 12 3/4". Am I measuring it
incorrectly ? The neck measurement is 29", most manikins that size have nose
to eye measurements in the 12" range.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Nicky, I'd say something's amiss. You're right that you should get about a 11 3/8" neck. I'd find the mount that matches the rest of the measurements and get some technical advise from the supply company you choose. You can get 13" from VanDykes or John Rinehart. McKenzie has a 13 1/4, and Research Mannikins has a 13 3/8, but the necks are around 33" for those You might try sewing a knot at the neck and have someone hold their hands in it to make it round and measure the neck that way, or stuff cotton in the snoot to make it full and try measuring it that way. Elk have long, big noses and it would be easy to misjudge 1 1/4" on a flat cape. Good luck.

id bet once you mount the elk, and tucked the lips and nostril skin, eyes, etc... it would fit on a 12x29, or even a 11 1/2x29 form. BILL
