Cape Sweating

Submitted by Kyle on 12/2/99. ( ) 207.1.105.14

When rehyrating the cape and then sweating it, how long should you leave the cape in the water during the rehydration process. The ones that I have worked on I left them in the water for several hours until the skin was soft again. Is this to long or does it just depend on the cape? Also when you put the cape in the plastic bag to sweat over night do you tumble the skin first or just drain the water off and then put it in the bag. I quess in a round about way am I rehydrating and sweating my cape the proper way or is there a better way. Thanks for the help.

Not sure what your asking here. When rehydrating a cape it can soak from an hour to it gets slightly soft. From there you place it in a bag and set it in the fridge usuall over night. The cape then should be soft and ready for mounting. Never over soak a hide that the epedermins becomes saurated. The reason being it will cause some hair slippage.
Always drain the skin before you place it in a bag.
