I have found this forum to be great and informative and totally confusing! On says this, one says that. Nothing like a bunch of Artistic people together. You know that artist are the hardest people in the world to get along with! I love you folks already though. Still having problems, but finding a lot of information that I am PRINTING OUT to have for future reference. But as I look though all of the archives I see that I have a long way to go before I really want to try my first mount.
Again you folks are great. Thanks for the information AND the laughs!!

Sherrie,
I too was totaly confused with all of the different opinions concerning
Taxidermy. I am in my second season now, and have learned a lot.
You are right the forums are great and so are the people.
You just have to roll up your pant legs (cause it gets pretty deep at times)
The main thing to remember is : You need to remember the basic concepts of
Taxidermy. 1. Removing all of the flesh. 2.Cleaning 3. preserving
4.Mounting 5.Adjusting and artistic impression.
The dissagreement is not on the steps, but on the many different ways to perform them.
You have to find the right ones yourself.
Keep reading and studying. I spent 3 years studying before mounting anything. By the time I actually mounted my first project,
I felt as if I had done it before.
Good Luck and keep us posted.

Sherrie, Ive been at this since I was fifteen, and I STILL dont know what some of my fellow taxidermists are talking about! I guess that is why they say "theres more than one way to skin a cat."

If I wasn't confused, I think I'd actually have to go to the doctor to see what's wrong with me.

Hi Sherrie. Maybe you need to try something. Start out simple and then you might see why there are so many differnt opinions and ways of doing the same thing. It's okay to study up on the subject by reading, but in my opinion ( there you go another one) I think you cannot beat hands-on. You can only learn so much from words and pictures. You gotta get in ther in the trenchs and get your hands dirty. Then you'll know what we are talking about. Have fun, that's the most important thing. Turtle
as a very litteral person, I've recently begun trying to track down the facts behind "maxims" or axioms, or Truisms. Is there any standard for cat skinning...and if so, how many approved, confirmed, or reccomended ways are there to properly skin a feline mammal?
PLEASE respond to me via my Email Address...Wellhoned@aol.com
Thanks in advance for your help
