Fleshing Time

First fleshing machine should be arriving next week. I have been doing hand fleshing and recently used a mini flesher with pretty good results. Can I expect to use the machine on face fleshing on deer capes? I have used the mini for this and seems to work ok. I know everyones speed is different but what kind of time do you all think I should achieve with practice as far as time spent on fleshing a deer cape?

David, I'd say you can flesh a well hydrated hide in about 10 - 15 minutes after you get the guards perfect. Keep the blade at a minimum cutting depth to avoid holes, done by adjusting the guards about 1/16 inch below the blade. I'd avoid doing the face, especially the eye area, with it. Just as fast as it works, it can screw up the eyes. Start on the neck as that's about the thickest part and you can get a feel for it. Good luck.
