Well guys it looks like i`ll be keeping my day job for another season,
but for the most part I`m pretty happy with what has came in so far...rifle season will be over in 4 days here in KS so hopefully another one or two will filter in.....so far I`ve got 3 shoulder mounts to do and just completed my 3rd european mount tonight....Not too bad for just starting mammals last fall.....Been doing fish for 3 years and had a good season last spring for fish so now it`s time to get some shoulder mounts out at the local stores for avertisement and get geared up for next season. My goal for this season was 24 deer which was a little high for just getting started but what the hey.
On the upward side I do have 5 phesants from customers in the freezer and at least two calls for lifesize bobcats....I keep myself to busy to get down on the low number of deer heads I had brought in....Looks like I`ll be sticking with small mammals for the rest of the cold season just for more experience and to sell outright......
Next year it will be 24 heads I hope....to all the other new commers---Best of luck and stick close to this site...read all ya can and don`t get discouraged....
Thanks for all your help folks.....Travy

Congradulations on all you have accomplished thus far, I admire that you set high goals for yourself. I also hope you've set high standards for your work. Although you failed to reach your goal it's inspirering to see that you have't lost the desire to succeed. Your an asset to an industry that has too many "fly by nighters", many whom I've met over the years that are only doing Taxidermy for the notoriety and have no regard for the quality of their work, which in my opinion reflects poorly on those of us out their who truely care, but all is not lost, good taxidermists don't mind taking the "FBN's" displeased customers. So in closing, I'll say Congradulations once again. Never lose the faith, and never lose sight of your goals! Strive to do your very best always, and the rest will fall into place. I wish you the best in your future endeavors. Good Luck. Marc

Travis,
Hang in there..do the best job you can on the deer heads you have, and
word of mouth will bring you more. I am in my second season. Last year I took in 12
heads, and this year I am over 30. You have to give the hunters a chance to see your work
before they will trust you with their trophy. Next year will be better.
Keep your day job, and look at it this way....You have more time to practice, and do some
display mounts, and improve on your skills. It'll be worth it.

Thanks guys I appreciate the advice.....anything that has to do with the outdoors is right down my line....and the enjoyment I get out of taxidermy is the best....I have aquired 3 capes for myself from family members and plan to get them mounted up and put in a few local stores for advertisement.....I got a wolf pelt on order, a grey fox, and a bobcat all comming next week....I can`t wait to do this wolf....I got me a fur dealers licsense here in KS this year so i could purchse all the furs i wanted....Talked to a guy who lives 9 miles from me last night who is probably the biggest trapper in KS. He caught 33 bobcat last year so I told him I will by a bunch of them from him this year.....Take care guys
