Smart ass know it all's?

Submitted by John C on 12/22/99. ( ) 204.180.103.89

I read a messege from Chris Ford.

This is one for little Chris to ponder.

Where would you be if it were not for the smart ass know it alls? They are the same people that put on seminars, judge shows and run associations organizing the shows you want to see.

Maybe since you know it all you can answer questions here? John C

( big help in the gaining knowledge part, not the smartass part...well maybe that too, he he ) Anyways, thanks to all you smartbucks out there for helping us dumbasses!!

We're referring to the shaving post on Dec 16th that was wittingly answered with good information.

Thanks Leanna

I don't personally know George but if Chris was offended by his answer maybe he needs to read it again. There is some pretty sound advice here. I own a $1000 fleshing machine but opt to send my capes out and let the professionals do the work. Before I owned the machine I used a scalpel and eventually graduated to a mini-flesher. If you want to do the work properly, whether you are a hobbiest or in the business, you need to purchase the right equipment or find a viable and affordable alternative for performing the procedure. I think what George was saying was if you want to turn out good work and be proud to put your name on it you need to follow procedure and use quality methods and materials. Personally, I hope I never meet this Chris character until he changes his attitude.

I thought George answered the ? well!!

I know I don't know everything!!!! I want to help people with taxidermy, Why? I hate seeing a animal messed up, Having messed up my share and knowing in the future I will mess up more.

The dark ages of taxidermy is when I grew up, nobody shared any info. As I was starting to learn there were a few HACKS sharing what they knew, charging for their little classes and trying to us state associations to promote them only, making the bucks for theirselves.

I gladly share what little(ask yox) knowledge, I have. But its for nothing else than to help someone get over a ruff spot. These days I am not able to work long hard, as in the past, but I have learned to work smart.

M<any time I dont answer to a question. I know what works for me but that don't mean someone else can get the same results.

This weekend I came up with a (great in my opinion) way to work bald ears. Before I share it I want to try it again. Ya'll have fun now ya here. John C

Piss off those that do know, and only us smartasses are left

This response submitted by Bob B on 12/22/99. ( foxranch@hotmail ) 156.46.64.90

Listen folks,

When those kindhearted, very knowledgable souls, decide to take time out of their
very busy schedules to answer some, often times very basic questions, why dump
all over their answers. I'm talking about the John B's, the Bill Y's, the Bruce R's,
and all the rest (sorry but I can not possibly list you all).

Grant these folks some ability to inject humor into those answers. Remember they
too just finished a hard full day, when they sat down to their pcs to relax.

Remember this, keep slamming those taxidermists, they'll give up answering your
questions, then you'll be left will only smart-asses (like myself to reply to the ?)

So you decide, either value their efforts and responses to your basic questions and then
complete your mount, or do it the hard expensive way, that many of us did.

Buy all the books, videos, reference photos, 3D casts, manuals, courses, classes, etc.
Then put in untold hours learning (often by trial and error) how to shave, pickle, tan,
alter forms, sew, built habitat, etc.

GET THE PICTURE, EVEN IF YOUR DON'T LIKE SOMEONE'S ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION,

REALIZE IT'S TRUE FINANCIAL VALUE TO YOU.

...I'm going to whatever show this clown wants to meet you at, as YOU! Hell, sounds like to me this chump could use a good old fashion asswhupin'. Just think George, he'd have to go home and say "George Roof opened a big ol' can of whup ass on me, cuz I'm a whiner with no damn sense of humor" I'm going to take the liberty to speak on behalf of so many GREAT people that frequent this forum, and say,George Roof our hats off to you, for all the help you have given so many of us. I know,I for one, find you a valuable asset to this web site, and hope that rude individuals such as this fine fella don't persuade you to give up on all of us you truely appreciate you. Looks like I'm taking up for him AGAIN Bill(lol). Again thank you so much Mr. Roof. Marc

I surely am not a know it all,(maybe a smart ass) but when I read or ask a question I take your answers to heart. Any info that I can gain
will only help me to become a better taxidermist. After 12 years in
this business,I have learned alot of valuable info.(including some from this forum) So what the hell Chris's problem is, bewilders the
daylights out of me. Don't let one DUMBASS who obviously doesn't know it all rain on our parade! George R, Bill Y, Bruce R, and all of you who have inspired, helped, and occaisionally give us a little humor keep up the good job! If I ask a question, and your response is a
SERIOUS or a SMARTASS one I'll still be thankful to have guys and gals like you to be able to turn to when I need a little help.
Happy Holidays to you all, Kent

Goeorge I didn't know you were so loved. If people really enjoy you belittling them then keep on typing. Its funny though because my e-mail has been over-flowing with responses that they were glad that I stuck up for Chad. Marc if you like people answering your questions like you are an idiot then you and George are meant for eachother. I personally dont find enjoyment in seeing someone that takes time to ask a question that he truely wants an answer to and someone instead of giving a honest answer makes him feel stupid. I am not a taxidermist by trade, in fact I am a Chicago police officer and all day I see people pushing people around. My point was made and George was humbled, thats all I wanted to hear. He will think twice before he answers people. Oh yeah, Mark, as usual I left my e-mail address if you would like to contact me.

Anger Kills

This response submitted by Concerned on 12/23/99. ( ) 216.215.68.207

Chris,

I think after spending the last hour and a half reading all the related threads concerning chris' question and George's response that I'm most concerned at how much anger you are displaying. You're a police officer...which means you know stress, which means you're held to a higher standard, which means you should be more patient than most. I can see that you're passionate and articulate, but I read George's response several times and it simply uses humorous sarcasim to make a good point...you obviously saw it differently, but you might want to read it again after you get some anger management training or counseling. Someone told me a long time ago, "You better have a thick skin in taxidermy, and not just the one you're mounting."

If George's response got on your nerves, you better take a good look at the stresses of taxidermy: The bird that you've mounted and taken apart 3 times and finally thrown in the trash, the drunk hunter that shows up at 11pm to bring a deer in, the wrong order from your supply company, the customer that, no matter what, can't be pleased, the airbrush that won't stop spitting, the scales that won't lay down, the badcheck you got from a duck hunter, the deerhead you have sitting in your shop waiting for the guy to get back from the federal pen, the blown out ears from the tannery, the wrong names on two really big bass, the freezer that goes out when you finally take 2 days off to remember what your kids look like, the last 18 hour day you spent turning/splitting deer, and finally, realizing what you actually made last year. To one person, that may seem like pure hell, to another, to a real wildlife artist, one that truely loves taxidermy, it's just the daily routine, and he or she wouldn't trade it for the world. Good luck to you Chris.

Chris, I still dont believe you.

This response submitted by Bill on 12/23/99. ( yoxtax@aol.com ) 152.163.188.98

You keep stating that you are overwhelmed with email supporting your opinion. Like you told the others(if you want to be talked to like that, so be it...) same goes for you. If you really think that those one or two emails supporting you are a ligitimate cross sectioning of people's true thoughts here, well go with it. Kinda odd how its running about 20 to nothing in George Roof's behalf. I have seen guys go bananas on this forum, I have also seen our, mine included, tongue-in-cheek comments misinterpreted, too. You being the people person you are should be able to read into all that. I for one have never seen YOU answering any questions here, intelligently or otherwise. We really do not need you here to police us, either. Im sure you can take the hint...

Chris, I dont understand...

This response submitted by Mike R on 12/24/99. ( ) 209.117.80.70

....why you are so upset! If Chad felt he was being belittled, Im sure he would have stated so himself. Ive read the initial posting a few times, and I personally cant find anything that would, or should, be taken offensively! I have read nearly every post on the forum, and everyone that George has answered was in good taste and satisfied me!
Bottom line... someone asked a question and George gave his opinion. Thats what the forum is for! George, Bill, and all others keep up the good work!!!

Relax Chris

This response submitted by Bob B on 12/24/99. ( foxranch@hotmail.com ) 156.46.64.95

Chris,

I spent 10 years in law enforcement, working between a state and
a city PD. I now have been a civilian for almost the same length
of time. I don't miss that stress you are under.

You can't deny it, Chris, you are under a great deal of stress and
it is clearly showing here, with your posts. You need to deal with
it and quick. Here it's not "them vs us".

I could go on and on, about the high divorce rate and alcoholism
that we as police suffer, but you already know that. Stick with
the taxidermy, it will relax you, if you let it.

One last thing, I know you Chicago guys have that tough image, I
certainly dealt with enough of your residents, that always asked
why the police in Wis. were so polite. Here's the point.

If you have any time on the job, you know the hassles, that joe
citizen can cause you, by filing a complaint against your behavior.
Well based on your reaction to these posts, I know that you are
new to the badge (not handling stress and openly offering to meet
those who you consider are against you). Well Chris now that you
have told the world, that you are a Chicago cop, remember anyone
here might contact Chicago PD if you keep up your threatening
behavior. That will bring you nothing but grief for the brass.

And Chris, if you ain't Chicago PD and told the world that you
are, that my boy, will earn you time. So Chris relax, no one is
out to harm you or Chad.

Nope Chris..

You still don't get it. And out of curiosity..where are all those e-mail buddies now to back you up? Like Yox said, all are in favor, up on the Roof.

I wish you well and a Merry Christmas.

GUN. LOL. Counseling might not be a bad idea.

WE ALL need to remember this is supposed to be a joyous time, a time to reflect on all the good in people, all that people have to give without asking for anything in return. Christ gave his life to forgive us of our sins and we need to reflect on that example. Let us take this time to celebrate his birth. I am going to forgive you Chris, because the healing needs to begin somewhere.

I would like to take this time to thank all of my peers on this forum and wish you all a Merry Christmas.
