Well now, Thats it for me!

Submitted by Chad on 12/22/99. ( w_chad@hotmail.com ) 207.87.249.17

Well now, I was going to ask for information on A snake tan. But after getting onto the forum and seeing all the trouble that my last post has started ("shaving, is it really needed" 12/16/99 and then seeing "smartass know it alls" 12/22/99). I decided to throw in the towel. Let me say that I do not know George or Chris. But it seems to me that by me trying to find a little help I ended up starting a large no-holds-bard fight between not just two people but the whole forum. I just want to know, was my little question really worth all that??? geeeeee. I am the one who asked it and I dont see how! I am 23 years old and I work A full time swing-shift job and I can do with out all of this Bull! If this is what taxidermist do well then I dont want to be one. Its time for me to move on to something else, something A little more peaceful.

This is my last post

...can you imagine what would have happened when we were to tell him we have plenty of snake tan info, but its in the archives? Personally, I didnt think Chad was the trouble, or George. The other guy sure gave us a good opportunity to show Chad how close-knit we can be as a profession...too bad, though.

Forget About It Chad

This response submitted by George Roof on 12/22/99. ( georoof@aol.com ) 152.163.188.225

Chad,
Please don't stop asking. You stop learning when you do. You have to understand that I have this innate ability to piss some people off just by walking into a room. I know that. If you're worried that Chris would beat me up, remember, he can't win. If he did, they'd ridicule him for beating up an old man, and if he lost, they'd ridicule him for getting his butt kicked by an old man. Lose, lose.

I have never EVER said I know it all. In fact, I would rate my work as only average in this industry. I'm a commercial guy who many of the show guys would consider a hacker. My work is not competition level because I CHOOSE not to spend the time, and tedious effort that the show guys put into their pieces. I am not a Bill Yox, I never will be.

Having said that, I also don't know how to play a piano, but I know when the pianist screws up. I know proper technique and after 40 years, I've just had the longevity to have experienced different ways.

The Chris's of this world are dime a dozen. I grew up with them and their little "secret methods" that kept this industry in the dark ages for years. I swore that when I started, I would always share what I knew with anyone who asked. I expected them to use what they could and modify the rest according to their needs. These types always need to see their names up in lights, they know how to reach me privately: why else use the forum to vent.

So please don't stop asking. This forum needs you and others like you uch more than it needs us "smartasses". In 30 years, you'll be a smartass, too, but only because you were concerned enough to ask questions and make yourself better.

And I'm glad that you didn't take offense at my original answer. I assure you, there was certainly none intended. Good luck and stick with it.

George Roof a True Gentleman

If George's response isn't truely a testament to his character, I'll kick my own butt. George once again you've proven yourself a class act, and a hard one to follow. I may have said some things out of line in past threads, but mostly out of fun. I sincerely hope this young man isn't ready to throw in the towel, due to past literal errors. Hey pal,we all do it. Suck it up ,and drive on. We're not the monsters that you beleive we are,and if you hang around long enough, hell you may even find people like Bill Yox charming!(yeah like that'll ever happen, right Bill?) If you were ever serious about becoming a taxidermist, you'll stick around,we'll forgive and forget,as long as you keep the harsh comments to yourself, and lighten up a bit man. Good Luck in whatever you decide. Marc

one bad apple...

shouldn't spoil the whole bunch. Sometimes those responses, ones from guys like Chris are better left alone. Let him drown in his own self pity. Don't stop asking questions Chad, especially when there are so many willing and helpful responses.

You are in this during a time when many self taught, house of hard knocks, learn from experience trades people are willing to put it all on the line and at least lead you in the right direction for nothing except a simple "thank you". That in itself is worth something. Please, don't give that up.

George you sure can type well...

Happy Holidays guys and gals.

Laugh it off Chad

These guys pissed me off on my very first posting and I'am still learning (and laughing) with them. There really good people, just sometimes they don't want us to know it.

Happy holidays !

This response submitted by Doug M. on 12/23/99. ( dnj@tenforward.com ) 209.43.157.185

First I'd like to thank George and the others like him who give o much of their time and knowledge. I, like many others, are very grateful. Second I'd like to encourage Chad to stick around. I've been here just about from the start and I've shared info when I could but have received much more than I've given. I can assure you Chad there are pi$$in' matches alot worse than this one tucked away in the archives. Look around and you'll probably run across a few. (How 'bout that Bill? I even worked in the ol' "check out the archives" suggestion!) Don't be turned off by this Chad. Besides, if you'd be interested in tanning snakes I can tell taxidermy is in your blood. You can't walk away just because of a few harsh words.

Merry CHRISTmas to all!

Doug

Take it from me Chad

This response submitted by Art on 12/23/99. ( hursey1@sota-oh.com ) 216.28.80.89

Chad,
As I am typing now, I haven't read the post you are referring to, butI do know one thing,
Your post did nothing to start any trouble, the trouble was there and just boiled over a little bit.
I have been in taxidermy for only two years, and I'll tell you...they couldn't chase me outa here. If you read that post and all following, which i am going to
do as soon as I get done typing, you will learn something from it.
These Taxidermists are a funny lot and they seem to get at each other's throats a lot, but it's only because they are so passionate about what they do. Hang in there and learn from the best.
I don't know Chris so I won't judge him, but I do know George and he'll not lead you astray. If you need to talk to anyone , we have personal email addresses. Yox talked me out of leaving once and It's my turn.
Stay with it Buddy.
Art Hursey

We love ya George!

Oh, and Marc, Yoxy has already charmed the socks off of me!! Oops...sorry Bill, you weren't supposed to read that!!! And notice I said "socks" Bill, socks that is...LOL
