Are there any special knives or tools you need to skin or mount a fish?

I would suggest a good quaility pair of fish skinning shears, a fish skinning knife, fish fleshing tool, ultimate scissors, a check spoon and a good staple gun. Some are more important than others, but they all come in handy. You can find all of these at WASCO 1-800-334-8012

NEW--- multi-purpose fish skinning and fleshing knife

Cory,
I have a new knife coming on the market very soon (30 days). It is far superior to the old standard fish skinning knife. If you would like I can e-mail you a photo of the prototype so you can see the design compared to the one on the market now. E-mail me if you are interested.
Thanks,

Paul

It also works great for fleshing fish and small mammals (fox, bobcat, ect.)

Staple Gun?

Kenneth,What do you need a staple gun for?

Staple Gun

What many taxidermists do instead of sewing the cut line in the fish they staple it. Great idea it was in Breakthrough, but if you use this method make sure the staples are flush or below the skin. Then make up a mixture of bondo and smooth this over the staples. If done right no sanding required. Just another quick nd easy way to finish the back side of fish. Oh one more thing make sure your staples have cut edeges not the flat ones, makes a big difference when stapling it.

Frank, you said to staple the seam.I can understand that, but how do you keep the skin tight on the manicane(spelling?)

Message didn't make it to you

Cory,
I replied to your original staple gun question, but for some reason it didn't make it onto the forum. I think Frank summed it up well, though. Lately, I have used a brad pneumatic nailer for this process. The nail heads are much easier to cover than the staples.
Now for your new question. I am not for sure what you are thinking, but here goes. Make sure to use a good hide paste on your mannikin. This does several things, but pertaining to your question, it holds the skin in place while you taxi it into position. When it is in the proper position and everything is aligned, staple the incision / seam back up. Hopefully this answers your question, I was not for sure exactly what you were asking.
