Beginners and Patrick R.

This is to the beginners and less advanced artist.

Don't bite off more than you can chew.

Know the limits of your abilities.

Does it seem more advanced and are you perplexed as how to do it. Then it may be to much for your skills.

In a recent case, in court, a young taxidermist was ordered to pay for a hunters next mount and all, repeat all the expenses of the hunt. These sums come to over $10,000.00

In another case in the Dallas metro plex area. A inexpereneced taxidermist did a pet, in this case a scarlet and gold maccaw. This bird was not to be returned to the friends, just used for the taxidermist experience. Well the bird looks bad to say the lest and the taxidermist was fined $2300.00 for angwish and suffering. When the people looked at the work, they were sick. Pooly s colors were faded and the mount was overly bad. A like case happened several years ago in Kansas. Over a mountian lion I am told. The HUNTER received exactly what he pad for. The taxidermist that testified told the judge, "The hunter did not want to pay anything but 4th quality price and he got what he the hunter paid for!" well the Inexperienced taxidermist paid for a complete hunt and mount in this case also.

It does not happen often. But Know your limits and on special items please tell your friends what is going on by explaining the process.

Patrick I understand, about people wanting the experience, but you should realize not all have your gift for birds. Many people strugle 20 years through thousands of birds to learn how to do a ptesentable bird or what ever the specimen may be.

That is why I wrote the warning don't do it. In the Bird colum.

John--what in the heck is your point? Why do you feel qualified to give advice in this particular area of taxidermy? I would have to say that I agree 100% with Mr. Rummans' comments. As far as your comments of having to have the experience of hundreds of birds under your belt before you attempt a parrot---is basically a load of crap. To assume that you know the extent of someone elses abilities is the absolute height of stupidity. Just because you can't turn out a good bird mount dosen't mean that nobody else can. By the way---I 'm making that assumption from your comments above "many people struggle for 20 years through thousands of birds to learn how to do a presentable bird"??????????
John---just a tad of advice----if it takes someone 20 YEARS and THOUSANDS of tries to put out a presentable product----guess what---that person put a lot of CRAP out there and took the customer's money for it. That person should do themselves and their customers a favor---STOP MOUNTING BIRDS! and start doing FISH! By the way since you didn't tell us how your FIRST PARROT turned out it seems like you might have thown a BRICK out there with that bird. Just a guess of course---but if you still struggle--I'm sure Mr. Rummans would be most pleased to take all of your bird work!

Both points from both party's are well taken. Each I am sure has screwed up thier share of critters, right. I think John C may have intended well with his remark,as he has shown things can and doe happen, right? Has your work not improved over some time? Have you never want nor wished that you had waited a while to do a strange or wierd critter? Wake up John C's veiw was only one lane of a two lane road. By they way check your butt, danged if its not like a opinion everyone has one, right???????? See Ya

I'm not really much of a taxidermist but I am an excellent observer, and what I'm observing is that Mr. Rummans was merely pointing out to John C., that he hadn't answered the original question posted by Scott. Jo
