Where to find capes?

Submitted by Tony Holder on 6/30/99. ( tholder@tecinfo.com )

Greetings. I am a beginning taxidermist in Mississippi and I would like to
get some experience in mounting a whitetail deer before the season starts,
which is October here. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can
get a cape? Once again, I am a beginner and any help will be greatly
appreciated.

Ah... this is tough sometimes. Look in this forum under "For Sale", and post the request in "Wanted to buy". Usually you'll spend about $75.00, but I get some from my state's Taxidermy Association, listed under "taxidermy.net". Some schools sell them too. I have all my friends save anything, spike or whatever for me now. Good luck, that's a good idea to practice on a few.

Tony,

Try Midwest Taxidermy Supply in Sioux Falls SD, 605-336-1459, they handle dry and salted capes of several species. I have purchased several Whitetail and Mule deer capes from them in the past. All of them have been in A1 condition.
