Is this a resonable price?

Submitted by Donna on 5/2/99. ( ddz@pdq.net )

Someone had given me a 10pt, whitetail, set of antlers to refurbish. These antlers had been outside for over 2 years. They were not in the best condition. I have cleaned, stained, and sealed them. Is $30.00 a good price to charge the customer? Is that too high? They will be picked up in the morning. If anyone can answer this tonight it would be much appreciated. Sorry for the short time frame, but he just called. Thanks!

how long did it take?

If it took you an hour and you have some material, is $30 enough? Are you just helping out a guy to court him for future work? Make sure he knows your rates on taxidermy, this one was a one-time deal. Or charge what you ARE worth. Its 2 hours, then charge it. Its up to HIM to decide whether the job is worth it, not you...Unless it was carte blanche (spelling) you should always give a quote prior to doing the work, in fairness to him AND you.

About an hour fifteen min.

Bill, thanks for quick response. I do hope to get more work out of this one. You see, the antlers aren't mounted yet! I know this guy well enough that when he sees the results, I will be mounting them too. I know that you should quote before the job so I will definately make sure he knows this is a one time only deal. He is my first customer. I guess now would be a good time to figure my prices on the things that I'm able to do. You see, I'm still learning! Thanks again!

Heres what most lawyers do.

Anytime it runs into the next hour, the client pays for the full hour.

I.E. 75 minutes equals 2 hours. Simple and yet it put money in your pocket.
