The last several forms I have ordered for larger trout have come up 2-3 inches short when I go to fit the skin on them? These forms were ordered from two different companies and I took the measurements very carefully. Any info appreciated or recommendation on what mfg forms to use.

I have had the same problem over the years. The only solution I could come up with is to CARVE your own bodies. While this sounds hard it really is not. Once you become acustomed to CARVING you will find out that many trout, can be custom mounted for a ADDITIONAL EXTRA CHARGE. i.e. leaping tail down ect.
You will even get to the point where very little mache or clay will be used adding to very light weight mounts. Seal the backs with SMOOTH OUT and roll a DANDY NOSER over it for some texture and paint.
Good luck John C

Check your fish forms when you get them to make sure that the distance from the shoulder bone to end of the body at the base of the tail is the same as the fish you are mounting, (take this measurement before skinning and record it). If the fish manikin has the correct length and you still end up with too much skin when you try to mount it, it because you are starting at the tail and stretching the skin lengthwise. Pin the tail area, then pin the shoulder bone area in palce followed by the top of the head,(if you're using an artifical head. Once those are in place, move the skin about until the fins are where they belong etc. It' common to think you have a short body.
