First Fish Body??

Submitted by Tony on 3/8/1999. ( )

I am about to undertake my first project in taxidermy and would like some advice. I would like your opinions on what type of body you suggest for a beginner. A premaid form, carving, or something else. I have a large bluegill for my first project. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Well for starters I would suggest to buy one to fit your fish. Then you can use this if you want to try your hand at carving a body. Get a vedio on carving fish bodies. I can be very rewarding when you carve out a fish body. You wil also find out it becomes cost effective when your learning how to do fish. I carve all my fish bodies, and put them in any shape I like. Good luck

Try the half cast method. I learned using this method 25 years ago and still use it. It is perfect for large scale fish like bluegill, bass, etc, with no carving to learn. Let me know if I can help.
