Mini Flesher

I am a beginner in this and have done a couple of deer mounts. I am looking for any comments on the Mini Flesher I have seen for sale. What kind of job does it do and is it worth the price. Since I only do this as a hobby I cant justify the expense of a flesher but if this small hand held unit does a satisfactory job I would be willing to pay the $150.00 to 180.00 I have seen it for.

Steve - at that price, you can't go wrong! Especially if like you say, it's strictly Hobby level work right now. It will do the job - but eventually, once you get into this, you'll want to move into buying a shaving machine - its much faster! Unless you've already used a shaving machine, you may not mind using it - but the larger shavers do such a better job, and in very little time by comparison! Go get it!

Steve,

I mount deer heads as a hobby myself. I've only been doing it about 3 years, only a couple a year at that. After the first 2 deer heads I mounted, I knew there had to be a better way than using a knife...6 hrs of sweat and pain. Last year I bought the mini flesher and found that it takes a fraction of the time with a lot less pain and frustration. In fact, I just fleshed a hide last night. The cut is a bit rough but that may just be me. I smooth the hide with a skife knife. Still, the end results are pretty good. Beats 6 hrs!
