I would like to know how to go about removing the cartilage from a whitetail and the procedure for mounting with plastic earliners. Thank You, Dan

Dan, do you have a McKenzie catolog? They show a good method there. If not, say so and I'll be glad to go into some details for you here. It's getting tough to spend alot of time now, with the deer season getting busy!!! You can reach them through the taxidermy.net and/or 800-279-7985. Hope this helps, Bill PS ...I would use the eppley ears.

Sorry, Dan, the instructions didnt include cartilage removal in the catolog. Basically, you start at the heavy top edge towards the front corner and peel the skin away from the cartilage. Whatever tears away from the piece of cartilage can be peeled off seperately, no need to remove as one piece. Make sure the ear is turned to the very edge.

Dan- I've been doing a few deer a year for about three years now and have used ear liners since I began. Last night, Joh Creager showed me the bondo techniue and, quite frankly, I'm embarassed that I haven't learned it before now. It is SO much easier a produces so much better results that I'll never go back to liners again. Find someone that'll teach you how to do it and go for it!
