Is it better to tan cap myself or send away? And Thinning?

I just caped and fleshed my first cape, now I am wondering how to get it tanned. And also, I have read a few postings about thinning the cape? Is this necessary and do the tanning companies thin it if you send it out? The deer is a 2.5 year old. Adam

Adam, read the postings in the tanning prep sections. You must flesh the cape of meat, leave the shaving of the skin's thickness to the tannery, OK? Hope that helps, Bill.
